Famous actor Sylvester Stallone’s wife, Jennifer Flavin, recently discussed their decision to move out of California for greener pastures in Florida. According to Flavin, she and her husband were seeking a change of pace for a “totally different lifestyle” in the Sunshine State.
Stallone’s wife indicated that the move has been incredible so far and that the couple is pleased with their decision to move to the East Coast. In June of last year, they reportedly sold their California home to famous singer Adele for a whopping $58 million.
The actor’s wife noted that as their family moved out of the state, nothing was truly keeping them in California. “I was born and raised there [CA], two of our kids were born there, but now everyone’s out, our daughters have moved to the East Coast … so there wasn’t really anything left for me in California,” Flavin said.
Furthermore, Flavin explained that some of their friends had also packed up and left the state, adding to the inspiration to pursue a new lifestyle. “A few of our best friends also moved, so I think it’s [a] good change, just making new friends and living a totally different lifestyle, I love it, I’m really happy,” she continued.
One commonly cited reason many are packing up and fleeing California is the declining quality of life in the state’s urban areas, where many feel crime and homelessness are becoming unbearable. However, Flavin said this was not a contributing factor in their decision to move to Florida, suggesting that crime can be found anywhere.
“There’s crime everywhere, there’s crime in Florida, too, so I didn’t move because of crime,” Flavin stated. “You can find it anywhere you look, even in small towns. I think California is probably the most beautiful state in the United States, I absolutely love it, but I just needed a change. I felt like I’ve been there long enough, and life is short, so I wanted to make a change and not just be sitting in one house the rest of my life.”
Stallone also issues similar statements to his wife regarding their move to Palm Beach. The movie star said leaving California was a means of “changing the paradigm” to spark further creative ambitions. “I wasn’t moving because ‘Oh, wow, I wanted another beautiful view,’” Stallone said. “Any time changing that paradigm which you become used to, it’s literally to jump-start that process again.”
Stallone also seemed to be at somewhat of an existential crossroads, realizing his age and finite time remaining in life. The actor noted that he didn’t want to become “complacent” in his later years, serving as further motivation to jumpstart his creativity.
“It’s really easy to become complacent. I thought I gotta do something drastic. Everything’s getting kind of mundane, repetitive, I can feel myself withering a little bit, drying up like an old fig falling off a tree.” He added, “Jesus, how long am I going to be around, for another 20 years? I don’t want to be complacent for 20 years.”
Reportedly, Stallone and Flavin had split up after years of marriage. However, the couple has decided to reconcile and give their relationship a second chance, trying to make it work despite their differences and past issues.
