The esteemed Princess of Wales, in a discreet and understated manner, graced the set of the renowned television program “Strictly Come Dancing” with her presence last year, accompanied by her two youngest offspring, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. This visit, shrouded in secrecy, has been unveiled by the esteemed Shirley Ballas, a distinguished judge on the aforementioned series, who has divulged captivating details regarding the royal encounter.
According to reports that surfaced in the preceding year, the Princess of Wales orchestrated a covert excursion to the hallowed grounds of Elstree Studios, where she and her children were granted the privilege of witnessing a rehearsal of the iconic BBC program, for which they harbor an ardent affinity. During this clandestine sojourn, the trio was afforded the opportunity to engage with the esteemed judging panel, a selection of the professional dancers, and the illustrious presenters, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that the young Princesses Charlotte and Louis were bestowed with a truly exceptional gift during their visit to the set, and that the children reveled in an “absolute ball” throughout this extraordinary experience.
In a formal statement to The Sun, former professional dancer Shirley Ballas elucidated on the delightful visit of Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte to the Strictly Come Dancing set. She articulated, “They are indeed beautiful children. During their visit, we had crowns on set, and I conceived the idea of presenting the young princess with a crown and offering the prince a box of sweets. However, he expressed a desire for a crown as well, prompting us to procure a small crown for him.”
Ballas commended the impeccable manners of the royal children, stating, “They are beautifully polite children. They thoroughly enjoyed their experience on set. While we captured photographs, I refrained from posting them out of respect for their privacy. I was simply gratified that they could partake in an enjoyable day. It is well-known that the entire family is an avid viewer of Strictly.”
It is a widely acknowledged fact that the Princess of Wales is an ardent fan of the show, with Prince William having previously disclosed that his wife and mother-in-law, Carole Middleton, are enthusiastic viewers. Moreover, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are also reported to be devoted followers of the BBC program, as was the late Queen Elizabeth II. In 2022, Camilla encountered Rose Ayling-Ellis, the 2021 Strictly winner, on the EastEnders set and confided that she had cast her vote for her. Four years prior, Camilla made a guest appearance on the Christmas special episode, where she danced with judge Craig Revel Horwood and professional dancer Brendan Cole at Buckingham Palace.
The widespread popularity of the television program “Strictly Come Dancing” has extended to the British Royal Family. In 2018, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, treated her daughter Lady Louise to a live episode of the show as a celebratory gesture for her 15th birthday. Recently, one of the show’s prominent professional dancers, Nadiya Bychkova, revealed that Princess Anne expressed a desire to participate in the flagship dance competition.
According to Bychkova, during a ballet event last month, Princess Anne conveyed her interest in joining the cast of “Strictly Come Dancing.” Bychkova stated, “She is a Strictly fan, and she wants to go on the show — she told me.” The 34-year-old dancer further added, “I think she would be good — there’s a lot of personality there, isn’t there?”
Commenting on the Royal Family’s affinity for the show, Bychkova remarked, “They love it, and they watch it all the time. Whenever you see royals at events, they all know what’s going on.” As a non-native of the country, Bychkova acknowledged her lack of familiarity with royal etiquette but expressed her commitment to maintaining utmost respect when interacting with members of the Royal Family. She expressed her amazement at the show’s immense popularity, stating, “It just blows your mind to think how big this show is.”
