In 1985, she became a permanent anchor for the CBS morning news program.

Her life on the island is pretty domestic, she does most of the laundry and cooking and her coconut cream pies are legendary. Don Hawley, was a Harley-Davidson factory rider, who won the first motorcycle TT race held at the famous Ascot Park in Los Angeles on December 20, 1960.
The Triumph is its own legend. The romanticised bike has won the affections not only of this bike racing hero but it also seduced “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen and “The King” himself, Elvis Presley.

It was in 1970, with an appearance in the movie The Boys in the Band,when her acting career really began. Then she went on to guest-star in TV series’ like Hawaii Five-O and Kojak. But after her role as he doomed mistress of the villain in The Man with the Golden Gun, Adams was catapulted to international fame.

At the age of 17, Pinheiro became the source of inspiration for the song “The Girl from Ipanema” after songwriters Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes saw her taking a stroll to the beach in Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro. In 1987, she became a Brazilian Playboy Playmate, then again in 2003 she did a pictorial along with her daughter, Ticiane Pinheiro.
The model ventured in the business world and in 2001 she wound up with a lawsuit on her hands. Apparently, the heirs of the composers (not the actual composers themselves) became the song’s copyright owners and decided to sue Pinheiro for using the song’s title “Garota de Ipanema” as the name of her boutique. In their obnoxious complaint, they stated that her status as the inspiration for the song did not entitle her to use the title of the song commercially. The court ruled in favor of Pinheiro.

She was a beautiful, unique, lively, young girl and she drew Syd Barrett in with ease. She inspired them. Many who have spoken of her, say she completely embodied the free spirit of the decade like no other, a true flower child. She didn’t even realize who Syd was, or that the photo of her posed behind them, gracefully posed in the nude, ended up on the back cover of The Madcap Laughs. Talk about carefree!

The lovely Lois chiles, the actress and former fashion model is best remembered for what’s perhaps her most iconic role, that of Astronaut and Bond girl Doctor Holly Goodhead in the James Bond film Moonraker. Soap was a primetime comedy that served as a daytime soap opera parody. Just the premise alone makes you laugh. But taking on (already ridiculous) daytime TV tropes for comedic reasons only works with a strong cast–which is exactly what Soap had. Katherine Helmond, Richard Mulligan, and a young Billy Crystal rocked this hilarious show in ways that demand a revival.
All kidding aside, Soap could do well with modern audiences, it was ahead of its time in so many ways. It dove into topics like homosexuality, prostitution, and murder. Not that these subjects were unheard of in the late 1970s but they were still pretty taboo. They also threw in alien abductions, demonic possession, and a little kidnapping for good measure. It was a bold show and earned itself a loyal fanbase.
Sally Field starred in the 1979 film, Norma Rae, which was an Oscar-winning drama about her crusade as she leads a shutdown, despite the opposition of her family and employers.

Although you may know nothing about the glory days of 1970’s drag racing, you have probably heard the name ‘Jungle’ Pam Hardy before. ‘Jungle’ Pam became a well known name in the U.S. after making her public debut with the legendary drag racing star ‘Jungle’ Jim Liberman.
She appeared alongside ‘Jungle Jim’ in numerous drag races and public appearances. She posed for some of the biggest sport photographers in the world, and has been an iconic drag racing figure for almost fifty years.

Believe it or not, music was pretty unique to America during the Cold War, so unique in fact, that the United States would send Jazz musicians abroad as ambassadors. Jazz was said to represent the harmonious fusion of African and American culture. It demonstrated what it meant to be in the ‘melting pot’ of the world. In 1961, as an act of cultural diplomacy, Louis Armstrong went to Egypt with his wife Lucille. From this trip was the birth of this iconic photo. Aw look, it’s Happy Day’s couple Chachi Arcola (Scott Baio) and Joanie Cunningham (Erin Moran) at the beach back in 1981. After proving to be fan favorites, Joanie and Chachi got their own spinoff show, titled Joanie Loves Chachi. The sitcom aired on ABC from March 23, 1982, to May 24, 1983.
The series also starred Al Molinaro as Al Delvecchio, Chachi’s stepfather (and formerly the owner of Arnold’s Drive-In in Happy Days). Ellen Travolta was cast as Louisa Delvecchio, Chachi’s mother (Travolta and Baio would go on to co-star again as mother and son in the show Charles in Charge).

Custom choppers originally emerged in California back in the late 1950s. They are notable for their extreme steering angles and lengthened forks. They had a surge in popularity in the 1970s. The most famous choppers would probably have to be the two customized Harley-Davidsons the “Captain America” chopper and of course the “Billy Bike” from the 1969 film Easy Rider.

That same year Nunn posed nude for the February issue of Penthouse under the name Betsy Harris.
She went on to join Berlin in 1978 and took time off to do some acting here and there. By 1981, she had shifted her focus to the band and rejoined as the lead vocalist and soon forged her recording career. Her greatest hits were the top-selling 1986 single “Take My Breath Away”, the theme song for the film Top Gun which reached the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Dating Game first aired on December 20, 1965, on ABC and was dropped on July 6, 1973. Jim Lange hosted The Dating Game for its entire ABC network run and the 1973 and 1978 syndicated editions. In 1986, for its revival, The Dating Game was hosted by Elaine Joyce for its first season and the remaining two seasons were taken over by Jeff MacGregor.
The Dating Game was often paired with The Newlywed Game, especially when they were both running in syndication. In fact, the revivals of both The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game were sold as a package called “The Dating-Newlywed Hour” in 1996. Brad Sherwood was the host in 1996, Chuck Woolery took over in 1997 for the last two seasons.

At the end of 1964 a band was formed, they called themselves The Warlocks and had their very first gig in ’65. A year later, they changed their name to The Grateful Dead.
The Grateful Dead isn’t just a rock band, they are a cultural phenomenon. Their sound is a fusion of rock, psychedelia, country, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, and space rock. They are famous for their lengthy live jam sessions, in fact, they have been called “the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world”. They have an incredibly devoted fan base, known as “Deadheads” that are willing to follow them to the ends of the earth.
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and they rank 57 on according to Rolling Stone magazine in its The Greatest Artists of All Time issue.

Actress Lori Saunders is probably best known for her role as Bobbie Jo Bradley in the television series Petticoat Junction (1965–1970). Saunders played the brunette middle-sister in 147 episodes of the rural situation-comedy. A role she took over in 1965 from Pat Woodell.
She also played Mr. Drysdale’s secretary, “Betty Gordon”, in the last season of The Beverly Hillbillies. And in 1973 until 1974 Saunders played “Betsy” on the situation-comedy western Dusty’s Trail. The show was a wild west version of Gilligan’s Island and her character “Betsy” drew from Dawn Wells’ character of “Mary Ann”. Saunders quipped: “It was the same show, just no coconuts.

As the host of the weekly horror movie presentation, “Elvira’s Movie Macabre,” Cassandra quickly achieved genre icon status. Between her revealing, gothic appearance, quirky personality, and Valley girl-type speech, her rise in popularity came as no surprise.
Throughout the late 1980s and into 1990s, Elvira-themed computer games were released: “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark”, “Elvira 2: The Jaws of Cerberus”, and “Elvira: The Arcade Game.”
There are also two Elvira-themed pinball machines and she was also featured in the PlayStation3 game “Pain” in 2007.

Last but not least, Martin Chambers hit the drums, backed vocals, and handled percussion instruments. Hynde remained the only constant member of the band throughout its entire history. Everyone flocked to Studio 54 when they were in town, actors, writers, musicians from all different genres were able to kick back and have some fun within the walls of this iconic club. Pictured here is actor John Belushi, legendary rock and roll pioneer Chuck Berry having a drink and a few laughs with fellow guitarist and frontman of the “Rolling Stones”, Keith Richards.
This particular photo was taken on Feb. 28, 1980, and Keith Richards has been spotted at this nightclub quite often partying with the likes of James Brown, John Belushi, and more often than not, model Patti Hanson (who he ended up marrying).

Although Mansfield’s life ended too soon, she did see several box-office successes and she took home a Theatre World Award and a Golden Globe.
F Troop was a TV series that took place in Fort Courage during the 1860s, a fictional U.S. Army outpost in Kansas led by commanding officer Capt. Wilton Parmente (Ken Berry) from 1965-67.

The satirical sitcom F Troop is about U.S. soldiers and American Indians in the Wild West back in the 1860s. It debuted in the US on September 14th, 1965 and ended on April 6th, 1967 with a total of 65 episodes under its belt.
It wasn’t exactly historically accurate, it often preferred to parody historical events. The majority of humor in this comedy was character based there are plenty of visual gag slapstick and physical comedy. There are even elements of burlesque and no shortage of visual gags.
In fact, there were a lot of recurring gags like a Corporal Argan tendency to always hit Troopers over the head with his hat when he feels they need discipline. Then there’s the malfunctioning Canon which seems to sputter out every time its fuse is lit, of course, as soon as the frustrated Trooper kicks it, the wheels collapse and that sets the darn thing off.
Now that’s a fish! A couple of happy fishermen with an enormous 300-lb halibut caught in Alaska back in 1969.

One Reddit user submitted this old photo of his dad (he’s the one with the beard) and an old buddy after just scoring 300 pounds of Halibut back in 1969. Which they’re probably still eating, look at the size of that thing! Believe it or not, there’s bigger.
While there is currently no “official world record”, someone has caught a 515-pound halibut and it may be the largest caught yet! The Huffington Post reported on it.
The current record for Pacific halibut stands at 459 pounds in 1996, it too was caught in Alaska.
As for Atlantic halibut, a 418 pounder was caught in Norway in 2004 according to the International Game Fishing Association.

The year this was taken, 1968, the ever popular Snoopy balloon made his debut. The parade of their last year hosting together (1971) was an interesting event because the latter portion suffered from a torrential downpour, which grounded the entire cast of inflatables for the first time in the parade’s history! Of course, NBC managed to work around it, they just edited in clips of some of balloons from the 1970’s parade and the show went on.

The Fantasy Island television series was created by Gene Levitt and originally aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984 and then was revived for a 1998–99 season. Mr. Roarke was the island’s man of mystery and intrigue (who only seems to have one name). He would grant the island’s guests all their fantasies… for a price.

The Exorcist was released on December 26th 1973 and quickly became regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time. The film which was initially only book to release in 26 theaters in the United States, Quickly became a major commercial success. In fact it became one of the highest grossing films in history, bringing in $441million worldwide! It was the second most popular film of the year.
The Exorcist was also the first horror film to ever be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. It earned 10 Academy Award nomination in all, winning for Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Coca Cola did well in the United States when it first launched, (so did most soft drinks in general), but they had a rough go of it overseas. They first began officially marketing in France back in 1950. Coca-Cola had already been available in France since 1919 but in an unofficial capacity. It wasn’t until after the war and the increase in refrigerators found in French homes that Coke decided to really market. Vans toured the streets handing out samples in what Coke now calls “La révolution du froid” (The cold revolution).

Hamel is probably best remembered for the role of choice Davenport in the long-running television series Hill Street Blues. Her character was a public defender and the love interest of Police Captain FrankFurllio, she received 5 Emmy nominations for this role. What many don’t know is that Hamill was also being considered for the role of Kelly Garrett on Charlie’s Angels but she turn the role down and Aaron Spelling cast Jaclyn Smith instead.

Mansfield was one of the early Playboy Playmates and a major Hollywood sex symbol of the 1950s and early 1960s. As an actress, she had several box-office successes and won a Theatre World Award and a Golden Globe.
At the time this photo was taken, she was on her second husband, Mickey Hargitay, who she married in 1958. In addition to being 1955’s Mr. Universe, Miklós “Mickey” Hargitay was also an actor. During the course of his marriage to Jayne Mansfield, the couple made four movies together: Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957), The Loves of Hercules (1960), Promises! Promises! (1963), and L’Amore Primitivo (1964). She died tragically at only 34-years old after a car accident in 1967.

Ringo Starr was said to be largely subdued throughout the entire month….he didn’t want to deal with any of their drama.

Don Knotts was a five-time Emmy winner for his role as Barney Fife. The over-anxious deputy with his unloaded gun remains one of the funniest sitcom character of all time. His onscreen dynamic with Andy Griffith has secured them a top-ranking spot on the list of best comedy duos in the history of television.
It was 1965 when Knotts left Mayberry. He went on to star in classic film comedies such as The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Incredible Mr. Limpet, and The Shakiest Gun in the West. He also made guest appearances as Barney Fife throughout the late ‘60s. Knotts did a little slapstick work before taking on another television role as landlord Ralph Furley on Three’s Company, (1979-1984). Knotts died from complications related to lung cancer back in 2006.

The Andy Griffith Show followed Andy Taylor, a widowed country-bumpkin of a sheriff who oversaw the fictional small town of Mayberry, North Carolina. Ron Howard was cast as Andy’s son, Opie Taylor. In her 12 episodes, Eleanor Donahue played a pharmacist that was sweet on Andy Taylor. She was meant to be Andy’s main love interest and was even given a mention in the opening credits. But, she asked to be released from her contract and left the show after just one season. The show ran for eight seasons, from 1960 to 1968.

Ah yes, America’s favorite hidden camera and practical joke reality television series, Candid Camera. The show was created and produced by Allen Funt. The concept initially began on radio as The Candid Microphone on June 28, 1947. Funt’s program made its way to television on August 10, 1948, and continued into the 1970s.
Aside from occasional specials in the 1980s and 1990s, the show was off air until a comeback in 1996. This incarnation of the series ended on May 5, 2004, but it returned with hour-long episodes on August 11, 2014, on TV Land.
