Kate Middleton returned to the public eye at Trooping the Colour on June 15, with Prince William and their kids by her side. The occasion marked her first formal engagement since her cancer diagnosis.
Kate Middleton has made her much-anticipated return to the spotlight.
The Princess of Wales, who has been receiving preventative chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer, joined husband Prince William and kids Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, for the Trooping the Colour on June 15—which commemorates King Charles III’s birthday—in her first formal appearance since Christmas Day.
Ahead of the festivities, Kate was photographed arriving with her family at Buckingham Palace, to join Charles and his wife Queen Camilla for the festivities.
To kick off the celebrations, Charles and Camilla rode in a carriage, while Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis followed in a separate carriage close behind. Meanwhile, William rode on horseback alongside Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
While Charles has made a few public appearances in the months since sharing his diagnosis in February, Kate has remained out of the spotlight amid her ongoing health journey with the exception of a Match 22 video opening up about her private battle.
And Kate, who confirmed she was attending the Trooping of the Colour one day before the event, also took the opportunity to share how she is doing.
“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” Kate said in her June 14 post. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
The 42-year-old continued, “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.”
And while confirming her attendance at Trooping the Colour as well as her desire to join a few more public engagements over the summer, she also conceded she is “not out of the woods yet.”‘
“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she continued, in addition to sharing her gratitude for the public’s support. “Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”
